A Call for the Team to Take the Field again...

As I sit in my study alone tonight, trying to find the words to write, I have a song playing in the background to assist me as I piece this together: "Clear the Stage" by Ross King. It's meant for all of my somber thoughts and my attempt to become selfless once again, admitting that I am in need of a Savior. We all are. I am thankful for Jesus paying my debts on Calvary's tree. I want to crush the idols in my life and serve wholeheartedly again. And as I look over at my daily devotion, the Scripture is applicable, because it is desperately needed for me to increase my capacity to experience Him again:

"May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God." Ephesians 3:19

Ironically, the suggestions for me in my YouTube browser brought me to the song "Masterpiece" by Danny Gokey just as I finished writing the Scripture from His Love Letter. If you need this tonight, just as I have, it is okay with me if you leave this blog and go listen to the words of this song.

For those that are still with me, something has been stirring in me lately. In fact, it has kept me up late at night, wondering which direction to take.

Recently, my dear friend and youth minister from my past Paul reached out to me to offer a proposition that sounded pretty good to me but my finances and my soul did not counsel me in joining him in this endeavor. However,  my inner desire to help Paul in any way I could would not go away. I could not silence it. I want Paul and his wife, Susan, to retire with dignity as I am sure many do...probably more that I do.

So, this evening, I went into Facebook and blew the dust off an old page that I am still a member of. There are several of us with the same cause that are still members of this page. As a matter of fact, the buzz is starting to reach some of my friends that did not even know Paul had written a book.

And thus, I give some explanation to the title of this blog...

I believe it is time to start the buzz again.

In the volatile world of publishing, sales of a book are as much of a roller coaster as the DJIA or the S&P500 in the stock market on a weekly basis. And Paul's book seems to be a little bit on the downward side, and this is unacceptable. It is time for a "boom" cycle for this timeless writing instead of a "bust" cycle.

It is time for the team to take the field again and 'play some ball'. It is time for the team members to rise up out of the ashes of years past and reach out to those who need the guidance and lessons in this book, especially for those who have lost a love one or have a beloved family member who is battling cancer.

And how adequate that Danny Gokey's song, "The Comeback" is now playing aloud from my playlist. That is exactly what needs to occur.

It is time for a comeback.

It is time for Ashley's legacy to be on the lips of our friends again. It is time for the team to rise like a phoenix into the sky!

...It is time for the Broken Heart Street Team to return.

(insert pulse and heartbeat sound effects here)

Those Who Can, Become Blockheads

Decided I had better blog about this as soon as possible before someone out there snatches it up! Yeah, I know. It's been awhile since Blockhead wrote a blog. Perhaps, not all of you have left me high and dry. This tired teacher will attempt to write more in the future. This evening, I was having a conversation with a friend I network with on occasion and share topics with back and forth in the podcasting world, and... Well, he inspired me. So here goes nothing... I plan on writing my first book, allowing the reader to draw back the curtain on my personal experiences in teaching and life, simultaneously assisting you and anyone who gets their hands on the book with lessons that can help you avoid the same heartache or possibly polish your own story with. Either way, my hope is that it all can be beneficial to you. I will gladly teach you some essential "in"s and "out"s if you are wanting to do any of the following: join the Navy or any branch of

A Blockhead's Library

After visiting Dave Ramsey and Dan Miller's websites for a couple of years: www.daveramsey.com www.48days.com ...if you happen to look in either the Resources or Library section of these two pages, you will see a visual array of books that these men have enjoyed, recommended or even required for their team to read. Since leaving the Navy, I am overwhelmed by how many books I have read, thanks to their influencing me to expand my library. So, for fun, I have finally put together MY personal library for you to browse through. If you wish to do the same on your blog, I will truly enjoy seeing what books you guys recommend, as well. Oh, one more thing. I am challenging you to be COMPLETELY HONEST. Put up books that you have completed, not purchased. Have fun browsing and I look forward to seeing YOUR recommendations, fellow bloggers! Btw, I have broken them down into categories as best I can, and have also included a small list at the bottom that I feel are MUST-reads. Enjoy!

"Nancy" Grace Affair

To give a synopsis on my morning today, I take a look at Facebook, and I stumble across a source posted by one of my more politically-driven friends. For confidentiality, we will call her Nancy (yes, as in Nancy Reagan). After posting an article for her viewers to read, one of her followers begins to personally attack her politically and personally. We shall call this person Doyle. Doyle gets a response from Yours Truly, telling him that he is a bully and how my wife and I feel sorry for him. His response was that I needed to “grow some thicker skin.” Now, to digress for a second, you may realize that my last post was about being conflicted about seeking justice or finding refuge, and a little bit of bullying thrown into the pot. “I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just,” Thomas Jefferson stated in his 1781 Notes on the State of Virginia. Time Magazine put it this way: “Jefferson was aware of the dichotomy between his idealistic words and the brutalities of slaver
