We Can Make Our Choices And Try To Be Happy With It

**This blog contains affiliate links. If you click and purchase, I receive a small commission at no extra cost to my readers.** Well, it's been a long minute since I sat down to just write a blog. It used to be a frequent occurrence when I was stationed in San Diego. Mind you, this was back when MySpace made the world go around instead of Facebook, Twitter, etc. Therefore, by popular demand (you know who you are), I have decided to blog again when it is sensible and I have to drive. I have recently binged on Hulu TV shows and one that was a big part of my life during my youth was The Wonder Years. It has been great seeing these episodes again as an adult. One, in particular, is an episode about Kevin's dad taking him to work so that he could see what he does for a living. At one point, Jack and Kevin take a coffee break. The father-son discussion that happens is quite profound. Kevin blatantly asks in 'kid fashion" what made his dad decide to become a Manager of distri

I recently listened to a great episode of the Side Hustle Nation podcast (that I DO NOT have an affiliate relationship with, I just like the show), and I realized that keeping my affiliate relationship with the companies I blog and/or podcast about as “clear and conspicuous” as possible is a MUST and a ‘best practice’ in my new chosen field of affiliate marketing. I admit it: I am still a ‘newborn’ when it comes to blogging and podcasting, and I have a

The Voice of Reason and the Voice of Men

Blockhead is going to go ahead and get his affiliate plugs out there early because I have a lot I wish to write about today. Hang in there with me, readers! First and fore most… Blockhead wants to save you some cash this New Year. I promise! Then consider Koa Coffee from the Koa Coffee Plantation in Hawaii, “ where every bean is picked by hand, harvesting only when the beans are cherry red, and no mechanical harvesting that would mix in bitter green beans so that every roast is sure the have the taste of Aloha spot on, every time. Ranch Testimonials, Fruit Cake, Good Books, etc.

Greetings, readers! This is Your Favorite Blockhead, hoping you and your family have had a very enjoyable and relaxing Christmas holiday. Just a little disclaimer: there will be several links in this blog for affiliates that I truly believe are appropriate for the new year and for a non-profit organization that is near and dear to my heart. Below is directly from the email I received from the owner of the ranch: “Because of your support, Runnin Free Ranch has been able to serve  100 clients  and has facilitated  290 sessions in 2017 . We have more than  doubled  the numbers as compared to  2016  in which we  served 43 clients and served 79 sessions .   ALL FREE OF CHARGE!!!!  We give all glory to God. Here are some quotes from a few clients Runnin Free Ranch has served this year: ‘As a Navy veteran, I struggled daily with rage, stress, a low self-regard and a lack of empathy before going to the ranch. My interpersonal relationships suffered as well. My relationship wit

Contingency or Ingenious?

"He who rejects change is the architect of decay. The only human institution which rejects progress is the cemetery." - Harold Wilson Please understand, my faithful readers, that Blockhead does not wish to encourage complacency with the verbiage I used in my last blog. However, if you find yourself “standing on the river bank of the If Only River” as Max Lucado depicts in his book, then it might be time to leave the rat race of materialism and become a pioneer roaming the wide plains of Already. It is to be understood that I do not approve of spending your entire life suppressing your passion and serving a time clock. It saddens me to think back to a particular scene at the beginning of the movie October Sky , where we observe coal miners for the ‘hoot-owl’ shift making their way into the abyss by access of the wooden elevator. The camera captures an elderly miner listening to his hand-held radio reporting Sputnik’s visibility in the next 24 hours over the United St

Team Hoppy and the Runnin' Free Ranch

Yesterday, Blockhead had the privilege of unwrapping an early birthday present: the t-shirt seen below... I proudly wore the shirt all day. Mr. Hopgood was a great man that I had the privilege to have short conversations with here and there throughout my childhood. His daughter, Pamela, and I went to school together from elementary through high school. Of all the good memories I could share about this man, I will share only one today for the "blogging-sphere" to read about... Mr. Hopgood and his sweet wife were attending a Navarro College softball game that I was in attendance for, and both were sitting in lawn chairs right behind home plate behind the fence. What I distinctly remember about Mr. Hopgood is this: his etiquette and true sportsmanship as a fan watching the game. Pamela was pitching, and my other high school/Navarro friend Haley (who was always VERY athletic) went to bat a few times that day. Not only would I hear Mr. Hopgood cheering Pamela, H

Strength Training in Contentment

Strength Training in Contentment Hello, world! Hope all of you are enjoying your holidays thus far and are staying warm! As Blockhead attempts to bring his message of 'thanks' this year, just be assured that I do not intend to bring the usual 'turkey story' or my experiences with Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc. in this blog. Nor am I a Cross-Fit enthusiast or fitness 'buff' who plans to bring you any desired "strength training" that is the norm in writings like the title might imply. Instead, I would like to take you down Memory Lane and discuss the anxiety that sank its fangs into me for so many years over a children's book that I had lost somewhere in between our temporary house on Myrtle and settling into the house that I grew up in on Maree Drive. This book was the 1985 illustrated masterpiece called, "The Power of the Evil Horde: Featuring He-Man and Skeletor!" I LOVED this book. The artwork for the Masters of the Universe is
